English Setters Unleashed
Extraordinary really. Almost philanthropic.
How often do you hear of a company waiving a client’s payments in order to provide the same desired product (in this case crosswords) for nada?
You’ll have to go trawling through corporate arcana for a precedent. Coz I’m stumped.
But that’s the miracle wrought by The Manchester Guardian this week, unlocking their crossword archive onto the freeloading public. And the puzzles are good too. In fact, they’ve just become better – with news of my existing subscription payment to be refunded beyond this milestone announcement.
(What’s the reasoning you think? No charge = more traffic? I can’t put my finger on it, but hey. Who’s whining?)
Retrieving my mandible from the floor I felt compelled to spread the free-puzzle word to wayfarers of this blog. If you haven’t sampled Araucaria already (the high priest of English cryptics) or Shed or Taupi or Brendan or Brummie or (my favourite) Paul, then tap on this trove address http://www.guardian.co.uk/crossword/0,4406,,00.html and lose your dignity among 4000 grids.
And make sure you leave a note of thanks to your Mancunian benefactors next time you visit.
