Your Suggestions Please

Stashed away in the top drawer is my dog-eared puzzle diary, milling with ideas for crosswords, Wordwits, theme lists, anagrams and all the other verbal quirks.

Over the weekend, thumbing the book for a few ideas, I came across six words, listed together as if they belong to the one set. But what set? If there was a connection, a theme, a lateral link - I’ve lost it!

So if you have any idea what the six words below have in common, please tell me. I’ve been stumped by my own puzzle-in-the-making. Even if you’re suggestion seems out-there, make it. The brainstorm might help agitate the original answer. Over to you:

PUBLIC
SARIN
ZANILY
CONDOM
ISLE
SAVANT

  1. Craig Says:

PUBLIC and SARIN and CONDOM are still words with a letter deducted ((L) (N) and (M) respectively)?

PUBLIC, ISLE and SAVANT suggest additional words to me. Perhaps TRANSPORT, APPLE, IDIOT?

BANDIT jumped out at me, reading down.

    Hm…

A strong opening bid, Craig. Thanks.

You’ve made me see that all six words contain smaller words: PUB, SARI, CON/DO, VAN, NIL….and IS.

Hardly a compelling link, but you’ve started the cogs grinding -
