Poowong Premiere

Kenny is a new Australian biopic, where bio stands for biodegradable.

Created by Clayton Jacobson, the movie follows Kenny Smyth, a plumber with a twist, or an ess-band anyway. Those with a nose for that kind of stuff can check http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0822389/ at your own convenience.

Keeping with the toilet gags the the Gippsland town of Poowong was chosen for the premiere. (Poowong in fact is Aboriginal for ‘dead meat’, chiming with the nearby town of Korumburra, meaning ‘blowfly’.)

Naturally, Poowong was cock-a-hoop to unfurl the red carpet for the Kenny Carnivale, setting out a dozen high-end portaloos about the Poowong Town Hall on July 2.

Makes you wonder if Kenny’s distributors have earmarked Dunedoo or Boggabri for the film’s debut in NSW?

Same soft-news story also sets a punster to wondering where else might an Australian movie make its appropriate premiere? Some suggestions:

The Piano - Keysborough
Look Both Ways - Glenelg (or Tumut)
Malcolm - Fraser Island
Chopper - Victa Harbour?
Caddie - Kingston Heath
The Big Steal - Port Kembla
Shine - Sunraysia
Japanese Story - Cowra
Crackerjack - Cape Bowling Green

Any other groaners to add to the list?
