Crazy Daisy (M)

MOOBALL, NSW – Jeff and Jodi Pryer were looking for something to do. The two met in Newcastle, and liked the idea of a semi-tropical retreat. Suddenly, in 1998, the Ampol in Mooball bobbed up, and the rest is bovine bohemia.

Cow-mad, the entrepreneurs painted every pole in town black on white. They camouflaged the garage, the bowsers, the planter boxes, the jeep. A weatherboard ménage of Fresian bull mounting Fresian cow acted as landmark for their Moo Moo Café, until rustlers intervened in 2001.

The joint is moo to the max, with a moo-acinos, moo moo burgers and hot cow pats. Even the pinball machine moos. As for the cutlery box, that’s labeled Cattlery. Hard to say which is more asphyxiating – the puns or the colour scheme! [Tweed Valley Way. Open daily. Phone 02-6677-1230]
